window shop #3: vintage wardrobe for spring 2014

They say that the third time's the charm, and in the case of my “window shop” series, I feel like there's a certain je ne sais quoi in the Spring 2014's runway trends. Now, regular readers may already be shaking in their seat (or winter boots), “Did she say runway fashion?” And before you literally run away to go set trends not follow them, let me remind you, I am a lover of all things local and beautifully handcrafted, of all the hidden little gems and steals that can be incorporated into a minimalistic wardrobe that one is proud to call their own. For the record, I am also not a 6-foot tall runway model or New York elitist trust fund brat sitting on a pile of reserved money that allows me to turn my closet over every season the way pit masters turn over slabs of pork. Plus, I just spent all this time cleaning my closet out before my trip to Europe so there's no way in hell I am going to fill it up with items I will only wear once.

However...

I run through this list every post because I think it's an important personal reminder. I remember what it was like to live within the walls of the toxic, racist, superficial fashion industry and I most certainly remember the cold and sweaty nights that would leave me with the restless question, “Do my coworkers think I am trend ignorant?” Here's your BULLSHIT whistle- having a timeless wardrobe with historical, thrifted pieces will boost your confidence, pad your wallet, and never leave you wanting more. Here are my top three classic reminders for thrifting and vintage hunting within a particular season:

exclusive: fabulous daily life of target market females

The pale moonlight stretches out across the perfectly virginal white , bone-straight bed sheets, as the clock switches silently to 6:30am signaling the start of a brand new day in the fabulous life of the target market female. This is the beginning of an Instagram-worthy 24 hours. Like all the others. No matter what.

Without even slightly messing up the 900-count Persian sheets (Egyptian was so 2004) unless the theme of the day is bed kitten's tousled moments, or without pulling crust out of the corner of her eye, or waking up her perfectly chiseled spouse, the target market female emerges gracefully from sleep into lotus pose welcoming the brand new day with gratitude as recommended by Martha Stewart and FitSugar and Gabrielle Bernstein and Cosmo and Chuck Norris. (Que the daily journal app.) This zen awakening (literally, not figuratively) is followed by a well curated breakfast of fresh juice, pomegranate seeds, and the bottled water Jennifer Aniston loves made lovingly in America, not the one that comes from the French Alps allegedly.

coming soon : fashion boutique finder, local shopping and sales app

This is what's been keeping me up at night. Think girls can't code? Well, they can't really! But once you're a freelancer, you know others, and the world is your oyster. Now maybe you might stop mulling around and take this post seriously!

sponsored post: fierce simplicity swimwear

Ed Note: Like every other sugardaddy-free woman in this country, I gotta pay bills. And yes its winter, but I'm bringing you a swimwear post anyway. Aspirational luxuries and such. Truth is, I was in Mexico not too long ago and might plan to hop over to California for much needed R&R now that they have water in their oceans again (thanks climate change!) but what I realized in Mexico after growing infuriated by the lack of unique swimsuits there is, shopping off season sometimes saves headaches. Like buying discounted designer boots in Spring. You know how it goes. And I probably do like one sponsored post a year, so it means I like this brand. I'll never be THAT skinny, but their styles make weight loss resolutions look as necessary as Amanda Byne's rehab. Let's call them the Nasty Gal of swim! Ciao.

currently lusting vegan metallic stilettos

to buy, or not to buy...that is the question! what do you think dolls, do these fiercely fabulous shoes look like a must-have or a trendy wardrobe fling? this is what I'll be wondering over the weekend. that, and whether or not I should cheat on my detox cleanse with dark chocolate.

what are your weekend plans?

obsessed with vintage again

oh how I miss Miami. as a youngster living right off "The Ave" just a stone's throw away from some of the country's most indulgent shopping, I usually scoffed at high-priced designer labels and went straight into the thrifty vintage shops. if you're ever in MIA, check out Fly Boutique, my alma mater but also just one of the very best vintage boutiques and consignment shops i've ever been inside. that's saying allot coming from a born and bred new yorker! plus, i have som flashback outfits to prove it. that camel-toned gold trim belt and snakeskin chain bag didn't grow on trees!

ps- this is all just to say that i really want a reason to splurge on vintage for no rhyme or reason. where do you shop for vintage these days? i'm out of the loop!

LUSTING: apolis market bag

Sometimes you grab any old bag and just head to the nearest market. But sometimes, you lust after a bag so beautiful in its simplicity, that it makes you desperate to find a market where you can wander aimlessly looking for that perfect loaf of fresh French bread, juicy grapes, and straight-from-the-oven apple pie. Ah, and farm fresh eggs of course. This market bag beauty from Apolis will do just the trick. And don't worry, the $58 price tag is for the pure authenticity, handmade craftsmanship, and cost of bringing fair trade to the world. The again, you could of course blow that pretty penny at the supermarket instead, where food isn't really food so much as it's a chemical orgy that makes you ugly and fat, and they give you polluting, sea life suffocating, oil industry addicted plastic bags to take that fake food home with as the cherry on top. Yeah, a pretty market bag is much better...that's what I thought.

minimalist website love: olive manna online shop

Well, well. If it isn't little miss window shopper. Who, you? No me. Silly. Ok let's cut the games. Friday nights are not complete without a little bit of virtual perusing...a bit of mischievous wishlist creating...perhaps even, a purchase. Gasp. And what better place to drop some serious dough (as in money...hold onto your flour girls!) than insatiable-quenching online shop Olive Manna.

Now, I am blaming this feverous habit of unnecessary money laundering on a new business venture. Its the king of all foodie ideas, and I'm launching it soon, just in time for the holiday season, with none other than my bloggie friend Mandy over at Honey & Thread. She and I have been secretly twirling our strands over a creative concept for people who love food and love it in their mouth. Something that will have you drooling every month. But its also something you will have to wait for. In the meantime, here are some of the delightful items I am currently adding to my cart for a bit of food packaging mischief...
